Two applications, in a fixed order
You apply to a KTH master’s programme first, through universityadmissions.se. Then, when the scholarship application is open, you submit it through the form on KTH’s scholarship page. KTH says no additional documents are required for the scholarship application, because it uses the documents you submitted to universityadmissions.se. The programme must be your first priority. A KTH programme listed as second, third or fourth priority cannot receive the scholarship. This is the most common way to lose the chance without knowing it.
The dates, and one detail to check
KTH’s scholarship page lists these dates: the scholarship application opens 1 December 2026, closes 15 January 2027, and results are announced 1 April 2027. It gives 2 February as the document submission deadline. KTH’s separate master’s application page says applications for studies starting in 2027 open on 16 October, must be submitted by 15 January, and that documents and the application fee are due by 1 February. The two pages give 2 February and 1 February for the documents step. Treat 1 February as the safe date. Non-EU/EEA and non-Swiss citizens pay a SEK 900 application fee, and KTH says there are no fee waivers.
What it covers
The scholarship covers tuition for the first and second year, provided your first-year study results are satisfactory. It does not cover living costs. That matters more than the word “scholarship” suggests: you still need to fund your own living expenses. Do not describe this as a fully funded award.
How selection works
KTH says the scholarship is awarded primarily on academic excellence, and only applicants who fulfil the programme’s admission requirements are eligible. After admission assessment, it looks at grades, the ranking of the university that awarded your bachelor’s degree, extracurricular research or publications, relevant work or teaching experience, competition awards and activities, and your motivation for how you will contribute to the sustainable development goals with a KTH master’s degree. KTH reports that in 2025, 8% of the scholarship applicants admitted to a programme were nominated for the scholarship (65 out of 803). Competition is real, so apply for a programme where your admission chances are strong, because the scholarship only follows admission.
How it compares with other Swedish awards
Lund and Uppsala offer similar tuition awards, but their next rounds are less clear. Lund’s page says the application usually opens in early February and that the last deadline was 16 February 2026. Uppsala says its next scholarship round will open in early 2027 and that only about 2% of applicants are granted a scholarship.
