A narrow fit, not a general science scholarship
Chulabhorn Graduate Institute, a postgraduate research institute in Bangkok, funds master’s study in exactly three fields: Applied Biological Sciences with an Environmental Health track, Environmental Toxicology, or Chemical Sciences. CGI’s own page does note that applicants from other related fields are welcome to apply, but the named fields above are what the scholarship is actually built around, so this is a narrow fit rather than a general science scholarship.
What comprehensive coverage actually includes
Coverage is genuinely comprehensive where it applies: tuition and every associated academic fee, airfare, a relocation and settlement allowance, accommodation, a monthly stipend, books, and health insurance, running across a six-week refresher course followed by two years of study, reviewed annually. The one gap: CGI doesn’t publish an actual stipend figure, so budget without assuming a specific number until you’re admitted. The paperwork itself is more than a simple form: a full academic transcript, three separate recommendation letters, a statement of purpose, and a medical history report all have to be submitted together, and CGI is explicit that none of it is returned once submitted.
Two application doors depending on citizenship
There are two application doors depending on your citizenship. Current Colombo Plan member countries use one portal; everyone else uses a separate one, direct to CGI, with no nominating ministry required on CGI’s side. Some governments, including Bhutan, Pakistan and Kazakhstan, layer their own domestic paperwork on top for their own civil servants applying through this route, but that’s a requirement from those governments, not from CGI itself. This isn’t the only Thai government-linked scholarship on this site: the Thailand International Postgraduate Programme (TIPP) runs through a different agency with its own eligible fields and process.
Founded under royal initiative, and built around sustainable development
CGI’s own page explains the institution behind the scholarship: it was established in 2005 under the initiative of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, with a stated aim of using current interactive teaching methods from leading research institutions to produce effective thinkers and leaders serving their countries’ sustainable-development needs. That framing is part of why the eligible fields sit specifically in environmental health, environmental toxicology and chemical sciences rather than science broadly.
A stale deadline on the funder’s own page
The deadline stated on CGI’s own page, 31 August 2026, has already passed as of this check, and the page itself has not been updated to reflect that. Rather than take the still-live “15 May to 31 August 2026” text at face value, treat the 2027 round as closed with no next intake yet published, and watch CGI’s admissions page directly for an update rather than trusting the dates currently shown there.
