# Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Scholarships

EU funding for integrated master's programmes delivered by a consortium of universities in at least three countries, open to applicants of any nationality, worth EUR 1,400 a month with no tuition or application fees charged to scholarship holders.

Checked 11 Sept 2026

[See the official page](https://erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu/opportunities/individuals/students/erasmus-mundus-joint-masters-scholarships)

- **Deadline:** Deadline not announced
- **Study in:** Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden
- **Level:** Master's
- **Covers:** Living costs, Travel, Visa fees +1 more

**Why there is no date here.** There is no central deadline; each consortium runs its own round. The European Commission's own guidance is that "in most cases, you should submit your application between October and January for courses starting the following academic year," but no year-specific dates are published centrally. The date that governs you is the one on your chosen programme's own website.

What you get

A flat unit cost of EUR 1,400 a month for the full length of the programme (12, 18 or 24 months), which the Programme Guide states covers travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs. Tuition and application fees cannot be charged to scholarship holders at all.

Covers

- Living costs
- Travel
- Visa fees
- Health insurance

## Who can apply

- A bachelor's degree, or in the final year of one, graduating before the programme starts
- An officially recognised equivalent level of learning also qualifies, per national legislation in the awarding country
- Open to applicants of any nationality
- No more than 10% of the scholarships a consortium awards over the life of its project can go to applicants of the same nationality
- You cannot apply for a second Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarship if you have already held one

### One catalogue of programmes, no single application

There is no single Erasmus Mundus application. The European Commission funds a catalogue of joint master’s programmes, each run by its own university consortium, and you apply directly to the programme that interests you. The scholarship is awarded by the consortium as part of admission, so a strong academic application and the funding decision are the same process.

### No central deadline; find your programme’s own date

There is no central deadline. The Commission’s own guidance is that “in most cases, you should submit your application between October and January for courses starting the following academic year,” but that describes the shape of a typical year, not a date. Find your programme in the Erasmus Mundus catalogue and work to the deadline published on that consortium’s own site.

### One flat monthly figure, not a bundle of separate allowances

What you actually get is one flat figure, not a bundle of separate allowances: EUR 1,400 a month for the full length of the programme, 12, 18 or 24 months depending on the course (60, 90 or 120 ECTS credits). The Programme Guide states plainly that this single amount “shall cover travel, visa, installation and subsistence costs.” There is no separate flight reimbursement and no separate installation grant on top of it. Tuition is handled even more cleanly: consortia “cannot charge student application fees” and “cannot charge tuition fees or other mandatory costs related to student participation in the course to Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders.” For a scholarship holder, fees are not subsidised. They cannot be charged at all.

### Joint degree or multiple degrees, decided after you enrol

The degree you actually walk away with depends on how the consortium structures the programme, and this is decided when you sign your study agreement at the start, not something you choose upfront: you’ll receive either a single joint degree certificate issued on behalf of at least two institutions, or multiple separate degree certificates from at least two institutions in the consortium.

### The nationality cap changes the real odds

The nationality cap changes the real odds. No more than 10% of the scholarships a consortium awards over the life of its project can go to applicants of the same nationality. You are not competing against the whole applicant pool, you are competing inside your own national quota, which makes a programme where your country is thinly represented a genuinely easier route in, not a trick.

### One scholarship per lifetime, and compulsory mobility mid-degree

You get one Erasmus Mundus scholarship, once. Anyone who has already held one is not eligible for a second. And the mobility is compulsory, not optional: every enrolled student, funded or not, must complete at least two study periods in two different countries, at least one of them an EU member state or an associated country, each period worth a minimum of one academic semester. That means at least one relocation mid-degree, and the visa process that comes with it.

### Almost 50,000 students since a 2004 start

Eligibility itself is simple. You need a bachelor’s degree, or to be in the final year of one and graduate before the programme starts, or an officially recognised equivalent level of learning. There is no nationality restriction on who can apply. The scale behind the programme is real too: the European Commission states almost 50,000 students have taken part in Erasmus Mundus since it began in 2004, making this one of the longest-running and most-tested scholarship schemes on this site. If you’re specifically looking ahead to postdoctoral research rather than a master’s, the [MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships](https://worldwide-scholarships.com/scholarships/msca-postdoctoral-fellowships/) run on a comparable EU-wide, any-nationality basis at the next career stage.

Where this comes from

Every fact above was read on **erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu**, the awarding body's own website, and last confirmed on **11 September 2026**. Nothing here is taken from another directory. Funding bodies change deadlines and eligibility rules without notice, and we are not affiliated with European Commission. Always confirm on the official site before you apply.
